This guide assumes you have followed the StretchSense SteamVR App Setup Guide.

Using Unsupported SteamVR Trackers or Third-Party Mounts

As of v0.6.0 of the StretchSense SteamVR App, the supported trackers are Tundra or HTC VIVE 3.0 using the universal mount that is selectable when ordering Studio Gloves from the StretchSense website.

If your tracker isn’t listed in the app, or you are using Virtual Desktop’s SteamVR tracker emulation, third-party straps or 3D printed mounts perform the following:

  1. Install OpenGloves from the Steam store.

  2. Open StreamVR Settings → Startup / Shutdown → Manage SteamVR Add-Ons.

  3. Toggle Off the stretchsense add-on.

  4. Toggle On the opengloves add-on.

  6. Enable the named pipe communication option and click Save.

  7. Switch to the Functions tab.

  8. In your VR headset, rotate your left-hand virtual Valve Index Controllers so they are facing a comfortable direction that would allow you to pretend to hold the handles.

  9. In OpenGloves, click the Start Auto-Calibration button. This will cause the virtual Valve Index Controllers to freeze in place.

  10. Make a gripping gesture and move your physical left hand so it is positioned around the left virtual Valve Index Controller’s handle. Hold it there until the calibration timer expires and the controller un-freezes.

  11. Check the virtual Valve Index Controller is oriented to your liking, then repeat steps 6-9, selecting the Right Hand as the value of the For Hand dropdown in the Functions screen of OpenGloves. You may need to check in-game to ensure your game hands are also oriented correctly. Some games like VRChat have additional options for wrist correction if you need to adjust the wrist tilt angle further.

Some straps may place the tracker along the wrist. This will prevent the bend of your hand from being tracked. If the tracker is small enough, use a compatible 3D printed mount design from the StretchSense website.

Large heavy trackers like the HTC Vive Ultimate Tracker may put additional strain on the Studio Gloves. If you are playing high-intensity SteamVR games with these trackers, use a thumb strap like the ones from the AMVR Full Body Straps kit to avoid accidental damage to the gloves.
